地名の由来
アイヌ語の「オ・サマム・ペッ」（川尻が横になっている川）に由来。
場所
北海道山越郡長万部町の地名。人口約5,000人。
交通の要衝として古くから栄えてきたが、近年は人口減少に悩まされている。
主な産業は酪農、林業、漁業。昭和に活躍した喜劇俳優・由利徹のギャグ「おしゃまんべ」も有名。
