地名の由来
アイヌ語の「シ・ペッ」（大きな川）より。
場所
北海道標津郡にある地名。人口約5,000人。
酪農業や漁業、林業がさかんで、甜菜の栽培も行われている。特に秋鮭の漁獲量は日本有数で、標津町民には年に一度鮭が支給される。
